Lyon<\/p>\n<p>Welcome back, my friends, nice to see you again!<br \/>\nThis is our last piece of 2014 and, for the occasion, I really would like to tell you about an extraordinary adventure: today we will move to France, in order to tell the story of famous Valdo, whom the Waldensian movement comes from&#8230; are you ready? Since the priest of his parish church was unable to answer all of his questions, Valdo asked somebody to translate for him the Gospel in his language, and he then decided to follow the example of the Apostles and to live in poverty; that\u2019s why he decided to give up his activities, and distributed all of his assets to poor people, and then began to live on charity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1258\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1258\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/pont_bonaparte_saone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1258 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/pont_bonaparte_saone.jpg\" alt=\"Brrr, what a cold! On the Pont Bonaparte (which crosses the Sa\u00f4ne) there is such a breeze&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Very soon many friends and even strangers from all social classes (artisans, merchants, and also few priests) began to follow Valdo, affected by his choice of life and eager to imitate him; he called them, quoting Jesus\u2019 words, &#8220;poor in spirit&#8221;. The Catholic Clergy became suspicious of everyone, including Valdo and his disciples&#8230; Specifically, the Clergy did not accept that they preached the Gospel: according to the Clergy, that role was entirely up to the Catholic Church. That\u2019s the reason why Valdo and his followers (despite their good intentions) were excommunicated.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1260\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1260\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/place_bellecour.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1260 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/place_bellecour.jpg\" alt=\"Here is Place Bellecour; well, today I\u2019m on vacation... but I have so many interesting things to tell you!\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/place_bellecour.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/place_bellecour-604x453.jpg 604w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/place_bellecour-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/place_bellecour-825x619.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1260\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here is Place Bellecour; well, today I\u2019m on vacation&#8230; but I have so many interesting things to tell you!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When the positions of the other spiritual movements of southern France became more critical in respect to the Church (some of this positions were also shared by the Poor of Lyons, who had also got in touch with their heretics \u201cneighbors\u201d), the real persecution for Valdo and his fellow began.<br \/>\nNevertheless, through the South of France, the ideals of the Poor of Lyons arrived in Northern Italy; the first Italian Waldenses settled in Milan, and then throughout the whole Europe.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1261\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1261\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/rue_de_la_poulaillerie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1261 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/rue_de_la_poulaillerie.jpg\" alt=\"Here is the street where Valdo used to live! Stephen Gilly (to whom we owe the construction of the College in the <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><a style=\"color: #008000;\" title=\"Torre Pellice \u2013 Waldesian Quarter\" href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2014\/08\/27\/torre-pellice-waldesian-quarter\/\">Waldensian Quarter<\/a><\/span> of Torre Pellice) arrived in Lyon from England looking for Waldensian people, he was addressed directly towards the valleys of Piedmont!<\/p>\n<p>\u2026well, that\u2019s it for this year\u2026 See you in 2015, guys!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Valdesina goes on holiday!
