Religious functions were celebrated in the Chapel of the Protestant Legations in the Embassy of Prussia, thanks to the intervention of a minister of the Prussian King. According to a request of the Legations, a pastor was sent from the Valleys as chaplain, and it was forbidden to Catholics to attend cults.<br \/>\nIn 1700 in Turin a foreign community of Protestant confession used to live, mainly formed by soldiers and traders, who sometimes housed Waldensian ministers who came from the Valleys to officiate cults; this was a reason for complaining both by Catholic Church and by merchants from Turin, who did not appreciate the presence of foreign competitors.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1586\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1586\" style=\"width: 397px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1586 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino2-397x600.jpg\" alt=\"Posing inside the temple\" width=\"397\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino2-397x600.jpg 397w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino2-768x1160.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino2-546x825.jpg 546w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino2-825x1246.jpg 825w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino2.jpg 1095w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 397px) 100vw, 397px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1586\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Posing inside the temple<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finally on February 17th 1848 the <a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2014\/02\/14\/stale-luserna-san-giovanni-2\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Patent Letters<\/span><\/a> were issued, and the small Waldensian community of Turin had the opportunity to build their own temple, provided that it did not resemble a church and that it was financed by the members of the community themselves.<br \/>\nOn the initiative of Colonel <a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2013\/11\/01\/the-beckwith-fountain-angrogna\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Charles Beckwith<\/span><\/a> it was decided to build the temple in a central location of the city, so it was built in the San Salvario area, along the King Avenue (known today as Corso Vittorio Emanuele II).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1587\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1587\" style=\"width: 397px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1587 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino3-397x600.jpg\" alt=\"The entrance of the Waldensian temple\" width=\"397\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino3-397x600.jpg 397w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino3-768x1160.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino3-546x825.jpg 546w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino3-825x1246.jpg 825w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/tempio_torino3.jpg 1095w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 397px) 100vw, 397px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1587\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The entrance of the Waldensian temple<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The building of the temple required huge financial efforts to members of the community, despite the fundraising by Beckwith and the financial support of the banker Joseph Malan.
