{"id":2471,"date":"2017-04-14T14:49:21","date_gmt":"2017-04-14T12:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/?p=2471"},"modified":"2017-04-14T11:11:42","modified_gmt":"2017-04-14T09:11:42","slug":"2471","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2017\/04\/14\/2471\/","title":{"rendered":"Carlo Alberto Fountain &#8211; Torre Pellice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hello kids!<br \/>\nToday I will not take you too much time, since I really hope this weekend you&#8217;re going to have a nice Easter and I wish you&#8217;re planning many beautiful family outings choosing between the places we visited together through the years!<br \/>\nToday we are in a very central area of Torre Pellice (Turin)&#8230;<br \/>\nOn September 24th, 1844 Carlo Alberto came here for a visit and in order to inaugurate the new parish church of St. Martin, which was built in the hope of converting the population to the Catholic faith.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2465\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana1-398x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"398\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana1-398x600.jpg 398w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana1-768x1159.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana1-547x825.jpg 547w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana1-825x1245.jpg 825w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana1.jpg 1017w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For that occasion people also decided to build a new bridge made of stone at the entrance of the village, &#8217;cause the older one was made of wood and every year the river Angrogna would wipe it out during the floods.<br \/>\nAlthough he had arrived in Torre Pellice for the inauguration of a Catholic building, Torre Pellice people&#8217;s welcome was so passionate that, before leaving, Carlo Alberto decided to donate a fountain as a sign of gratitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2466\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_2-398x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"398\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_2-398x600.jpg 398w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_2-768x1159.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_2-547x825.jpg 547w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_2-825x1245.jpg 825w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_2.jpg 1017w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At that time (the fountain was built in 1845) water was such a precious good that a gift like a fountain was really priceless (just like Bequ\u00ec fountain in Angrogna dedicated to Charles Beckwith&#8217;s daughter).<br \/>\n&#8230;was that the sign of a new mood of tolerance that a few years later would take to the <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2014\/02\/14\/stale-luserna-san-giovanni-2\/\">Patent Letters<\/a><\/span>?<br \/>\nOn the fountain there&#8217;s not a clear reference to Waldensian people, but we imagine that it was dedicated especially to them, since &#8211; at that time &#8211; the majority of the population professed that confession!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2467 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/fontana_3-780x517.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"604\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>How to get here:<\/b><br \/>\n<i>reach Torre Pellice moving along Provincial Road 161; just before the village and crossed the bridge over the creek Angrogna, on your right you will find St. Martin square with the church of the same name.
