Ror\u00e0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi guys!<br \/>\nDon&#8217;t you want to know where we are today?<br \/>\nWe are back in <a title=\"Ror\u00e0\" href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2013\/10\/11\/rora-2\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Ror\u00e0<\/span><\/a>, because we are going to talk about the Waldensian temple.<br \/>\nYou ought to know that all of Waldensian religious buildings hide some kind of tale, and today I&#8217;d like to tell you one that belongs to here.<br \/>\nThe temple you see behind me was built in 1846, but there are many places round here where there used to be even more ancient buildings; unfortunately, no traces remained of most of them.<br \/>\nThis happened because throughout the age of religious persecutions, the little hamlet of Ror\u00e0 was destroyed and rebuilt several times.<br \/>\nAt the beginning of 18th century <a title=\"Featured: Who are the Waldensians?\" href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2015\/02\/13\/featured-who-are-the-waldensians\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Waldensians<\/span> <\/a>decided that they should build a little temple in the hamlet center, in order to host the families (almost 80) from all over the valley.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_467\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-467\" style=\"width: 397px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/1.-il-tempio-valdese-di-Ror\u00e0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-467 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/1.-il-tempio-valdese-di-Ror\u00e0-397x600.jpg\" alt=\"The Waldensian church of Ror\u00e0 \" width=\"397\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-467\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Waldensian church of Ror\u00e0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A few years later King Carlo Emanuele III ordered the construction of a Catholic church that was built, as well, in the center of the village and not far from the Waldensian temple&#8230; but this caused not few problems.<br \/>\nThe priest of the church complained about the fact that Waldensians used to sing too loud during Sunday Cult, and this would disturb the Catholic Mass.<br \/>\nWaldenses tried to solve the problem by celebrating the Cult very early in the morning, but it was not a comfortable solution to the ones that lived outside the village (and many also in the mountains).<br \/>\nMoreover, the priest kept on claiming that the Cult was too long and that he still was forced to stop the Mass every Sunday because of the noise.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_468\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-468\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2.-la-facciata-del-tempio.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-468\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2.-la-facciata-del-tempio.jpg\" alt=\"The facade of the temple\" width=\"1000\" height=\"662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2.-la-facciata-del-tempio.jpg 1654w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2.-la-facciata-del-tempio-604x400.jpg 604w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2.-la-facciata-del-tempio-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2.-la-facciata-del-tempio-825x546.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-468\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The facade of the temple<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the end people from Ror\u00e0, who were very upset, decided to build a new temple as far as possible, but they had no money to finance the works, since they all were farmers or shepherds.<br \/>\nAt that time, however, English Protestants who came to visit the valleys were helping Waldensians; among them there was the famous <a title=\"The Beckwith fountain \u2013 Angrogna, Martel\" href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/en\/2013\/11\/01\/the-beckwith-fountain-angrogna\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">John Charles Beckwith<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_469\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-469\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/3.-lattuale-tempio-risale-al-1846.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-469\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/3.-lattuale-tempio-risale-al-1846.jpg\" alt=\"The present temple dates back to 1846\" width=\"1000\" height=\"663\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/3.-lattuale-tempio-risale-al-1846.jpg 1535w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/3.-lattuale-tempio-risale-al-1846-604x400.jpg 604w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/3.-lattuale-tempio-risale-al-1846-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/3.-lattuale-tempio-risale-al-1846-825x547.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-469\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The present temple dates back to 1846<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Beckwith realized that the solution would be building the Waldensian temple of Ror\u00e0 near the pastor&#8217;s house, which was on the other side of the village than the Catholic church. He then decided to give his help and moved back to England in order to find money enought to start the works.<br \/>\nIt is told that, as he was explaining the project to his friends, he was approached by a six-year-old girl who wanted to help him.<br \/>\nThe girl had only a penny; Beckwith accepted her offer and told her: \u201cYour penny will be essential, because it comes from the heart, and it will be in the building&#8217;s foundations\u201d.<br \/>\nBeckwith kept his promise, and the girl&#8217;s penny was sealed into a wall when the first stone was laid&#8230; the coin is still there!!!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_470\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-470\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4.-Valdesina-cerca-il-penny-nascosto-nei-muri-del-tempio.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-470\" src=\"http:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4.-Valdesina-cerca-il-penny-nascosto-nei-muri-del-tempio.jpg\" alt=\"I'm looking for the penny hidden in the walls of the temple!\" width=\"1000\" height=\"662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4.-Valdesina-cerca-il-penny-nascosto-nei-muri-del-tempio.jpg 1299w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4.-Valdesina-cerca-il-penny-nascosto-nei-muri-del-tempio-604x400.jpg 604w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4.-Valdesina-cerca-il-penny-nascosto-nei-muri-del-tempio-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/valdesina.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/4.-Valdesina-cerca-il-penny-nascosto-nei-muri-del-tempio-825x546.jpg 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-470\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I&#8217;m looking for the penny hidden in the walls of the temple!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The construction works were completed at the end of 1845, and the inauguration of the new Temple took place January 6th, 1846.<br \/>\nAt that time, however, there was a law that established the number of temples that could be built in Waldensian Valleys, and in Ror\u00e0 there could be no more than one, so the old temple became a storage for bundles and charcoal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to get here:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>move from Luserna San Giovanni and get the Provincial Road number 162 towards Ror\u00e0. Follow the signs that will take you to the town. Park your car in front of the town hall and take a walk to Gianavello Street. Right in front of you there&#8217;s a staircase that will take you in a very short time to the Waldensian Temple.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi guys!
