After a few time, today we are back on the banks of the Bealera Peyrota, and we’re going to discover its path, from the Angrogna creek to the Pellice stream. D’you remember? A few time ago we spent some time at the Rocha Pisoira (I told you about its funny name, didn’t I?)
So… are you ready to go for a new adventure?
Today we walked through the woods of the hills of Angrogna, in Pellice Valley, and we got to the third step of our journey: the “splitter”.
You have to know that about twenty meters below the Bealera Peyrota there is another stream called Bealera Malana. They both were used to bring water from the river to the hill, in order to irrigate fields and meadows, but mainly for the mills to grind grains and nuts to produce flour for the inhabitants of the valley.
As I already told you, every millstream really needed a hard work to be built, because of sloping soils, which were often covered with vegetation and trees.
…what is exactly a splitter? In this case, it is a device that divides into portions the water flow.
The water coming out of the socket is divided into two parts: two-thirds are channeled into the Bealera Peyrota, while the remaining third flows into the Coustera of. S.Giovanni through Bealera Malana. I guess you are wondering why all of this is done…
Well, the reason is very simple. In 1957, the water inlet from the creek Angrogna was pooled because the water inlet from Gora Malana had suffered severe damage during a violent flood; nowadays water coming to the splitter is channeled just like it used to be at that time.
The path we took has led us to the Rocha Pisoira and to the splitter along a relaxing and interesting walk in the midst of nature… But this is not the end, since our journey to discover the Bealera Peyrota will continue with other steps, so… I’ll wait for you!
How to get here
coming from Pinerolo/Torino towards Val Pellice, just before reaching the town of Torre Pellice, turn right towards Pradeltorno (Angrogna) .
Driving along the road you will see on your right a sign indicating “Rocha Pisoira”; turn right immediately after and go straight on for a few meters along the road called Strada del Mulino Nuovo. You will soon find a panel about Bealera Peyrota and about Rocha Pisoira and just below you’ll notice a path through meadows and forests. Taking that path you will notice that long the way there are some signs indicating “Bealera Peyrota” (as one of the pictures of this article), just follow them until you reach the splitter.
