Roca Ghiesa, legend – Prarostino

Today I want to recount you a legend set in Prarostino, in the forest near Roca Gheisa.
We already talked about this place, which is connected to many historical facts.
People tell that a day, in these thick and precipitous woods, a peasant saw a man, dressed in an unbelievably way, that was climbing the grade. Intrigued by a similar outfit, so unusual to walk into leaves, bushes and underbrushes, decided to follow him.

Approaching to him, the peasant saw that the man was not a native and that he had never seen him before. The stranger, getting close to a group of rocks, draw a big book with a yellow cover, then he began to loudly read mysterious formulas and to make wide gestures. Suddendly, without any noise or sound, in a rock appeared a crevice.

Amazing! The peasant couldn’t believe to his own eyes! Into the gap in the rock there was a quantity of gold and silver coins never seen before. The stranger bent down and collected as many coins could bring with him and went away passing near the bush where the peasant was hidden.

Maybe the gold and silver treasure is still hidden inside these rocks!

As soon as the peasant was alone, he jumped out from his hiding place and ran towards the rock, but this was already closed, and the incredible treasure was trapped inside it. The man never understood what charm could give access to that incredible fortune.

How to get here
When you reach the square of San Bartolomeo, the administrative center of Prarostino, get the paved road which goes down to Milione – Bos Barbè. At the first fork follow the directions which indicate Pagnoni, Chianforani, Lia. Go on for a mile until you reach the temple of Roccapiatta, in a secondary road.
Follow the main road following the wooden road sign Cardon – Rostagni. Passed over these groups of houses you’ll get to Pralarossa hamlet, in the Commune of San Germano Chisone. Here you can rest for a while and look the beautiful panorama of San Bartolomeo from on high and of a slice of Val Chisone.
Proceed on the road which passes around and over the hamlet until you reach the last group of houses in Godini hamlet. At this the road is not paved anymore, and after this the road starts looking down. Take this road, and after on hundred meters you’ll find a road on your right with the indication for Roca Ghiesa. Take it and go on for 400 meters until the point where the road ends, and you’ll have to take a path in the middle of the forest, marked in white and red. From here a nice hour of walking in the middle of the wood will conduct you to Roca Ghiesa.
