Legend: the ghost from Rouchas – Angrogna

Hello!
Today we are at Rouchas, a township of Angrogna, ‘cause I want to tell you a non-Waldensian but Catholic legend, which is very well known among the mountainers… therefore in all respects it is part of the valley heritage made of fantastic tales…

It is said that there used to be a woman here, living in a cottage, that unfortunately remained widow, since her husband had died. One night she was awakened by a loud noise: her husband was back! The spirit sat on the edge of the bed and started chatting with his wife… and she was not scared at all, because he believed the man was resurrected by miracle to stay with her.

Suddenly, however, the bell tower of the church of St. Lawrence sounded three shots and the spirit in three quick leaps returned to its place at the cemetery. The woman realized that the spirit had wanted to give her a last visit and, though somewhat sad, she thanked the fate for this unexpected event.

How to get here:
from Provincial Road 161, between Torre Pellice and Luserna San Giovanni, at the roundabout
take the road to Angrogna (you’ll also find the traffic signals to Guieiza d’la Tana, Chabas and Vaccera). Follow the road and you’ll get to the main square of the town, then turn right taking a fairly steep rise and in 300 meters you will reach the square of St. Lawrence church. Continue for another 350m and you will be in the Rouchas township.
